IS33 and the International Baccalaureate

IS33 offers students the opportunity to follow National Education programs, as well as those of the international baccalaureate (called the Middle Years Program MYP). The MYP is therefore offered within IS 33 to students in grades 6 to 11, with the aim of developing the skills necessary for them to become effective learners in an international context.

The MYP aims to develop students who are:

  • Active learners
  • Internationally minded
  • Able to empathize with others
  • Have the intellect and skills to pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

The MYP

offers students opportunities to:

  • develop their potential
  • explore their own learning preferences
  • take appropriate risks
  • reflect on, and develop, a strong sense of personal identity.

As students seek to build themselves in terms of their identity and self-esteem, the MYP can motivate them and help them succeed in school and beyond.

At the end of this 5th year of the MYP, and therefore the 11th grade, students have the opportunity, if they wish, to take the 1st examination of the International Baccalaureate.

Students who have integrated the MYP after the first year will still be able to take this exam. This assessment allows students, if successful, to receive an official certificate recognized throughout the world. Students who have completed the 5 years of PEI are thus perfectly prepared to take the international baccalaureate diploma at the end of the high school. (source: https://www.ibo.org/)

Assessment

Through eAssessment, students will enjoy a richer experience during their final years of MYP study, as teachers will have access to a greater range of contemporary stimulus material and media content for questioning and discussion.

The examination process with eAssessment is positive and highly engaging thanks to its effective use of technology and focus on deeper levels of understanding. Similarly, ePortfolios provide a stimulating and structured unit of study, therefore delivering an appropriate and organic culmination of a student’s time in the MYP.

With eAssessment, students have the opportunity to:

  • explore their interest and passions in the personal project so they can start building their academic profile (CV) as they move ahead in school.
  • build contemporary skills valued by higher education and work.
