September is always a time of transition: the summer comes to a close and it’s back to business for parents, teachers and, of course, students. Although this is certainly an emotional time for many, our first graders are adapting to life in their new class effortlessly.

In the first days of school, we discussed the classroom expectations and routines so that we can live and work together in harmony. The result is a peaceful flow in the classroom that not only saves instructional time, but also brings a sense of comfort to young students who like to know what to expect.

Since music naturally improves retention of information, we have been singing A LOT to practice new words, express ourselves and just have fun! This week, as we have started exploring our theme about the universe, we learned a new song to help us remember the order of the planets. By the end of the year, we will have learned enough songs to put on a concert!

The year is off to a great start and I can’t wait to see how much our first graders will grow by June!
