Laughter, excitement, and melodious tunes have filled our school since September, as we rehearsed for the much-anticipated musical extravaganza – The Little Mermaid Jr. Students learned the individual songs and dances during their weekly chorus lessons and in the weeks before the show, we began holding rehearsals for the school-wide songs. Rainy weather couldn’t hold back our preparations; we sang and danced in the hallways!

Performed by a talented cast of students from PYP1 to MYP4, this spectacular production captured the hearts of students, teachers, and families alike. After three months of dedication and hard work, the young performers submerged themselves into the magical world under the sea, leaving the audience in awe of their incredible talents.

The lead actors, portraying Ariel, Prince Eric, Ursula, Sebastian and other beloved characters, delivered performances that showcased not only their acting prowess but also their singing and dancing talents. The supporting cast of fish, seagulls, and underwater creatures brought charm and charisma to the production. French-speaking narrators allowed for a more inclusive show than ever. The seamless coordination and synchronization of all participants were a testament to the students’ hard work and the dedication of the entire production team.

The success of any theatrical production relies on the commitment and teamwork of its cast and crew. The students at IS33 proved that age is no barrier to talent and dedication, our youngest performers being just five years old! And it was not just those who appeared on stage; our sound, lights, and stage crew were instrumental in bringing the story to life. The sense of pride and accomplishment radiated from the students as they took their bows to thunderous applause. The joyous smiles on the faces of the young actors reflected the communal effort that went into creating a memorable experience for all involved.

“The Little Mermaid Jr.” musical at IS33 was more than just a performance; it was a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the indomitable spirit of young talent. The dedication of the students, the guidance of the teachers, and the support of families all combined to create a magical evening that will be remembered for years to come. As the final curtain fell, it marked not just the end of a spectacular show but also the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for the arts and the enduring memories forged through the magic of theater.
