Interior Design – eco friendly learning spaces

Statement of Inquiry – The functionality of interior space is key to supporting communities

As part of the interior design project the students in 4eme and 5eme collaborated in groups of three to redesign a space in the school. They transformed the room or area into an eco-friendly learning space. The students developed their understanding of sustainable design, and carried out  research to ensure their space was effective as a learning environment but also reduced the carbon footprint of the school. As designers they considered the layout, aesthetics, materials as well as the sustainable design features.

The eco-friendly spaces included the art room, the rooftop, the hallway, the toilet and the grass play area.  They created a project proposal and presented their design plan to the class. They showed how designers must consider issues facing their environment and found ways to bring about positive change in their community.
